Milestones

Life is full of surprises. We recall that moment over three years ago when the news of Amos’ condition opened up a precipice before us. However we looked the future was one huge, murky chasm. We were in despair because we didn’t understand. We were amongst the many who’d ask the usual questions and wonder what went wrong.

You grit your teeth and move on. It was something we needed to do and it was the only thing we could do. Now, three years on, we see a different picture.

Amos has become the most spirited, joyful little boy we have ever seen.

When we sulk over the smallest stuff Amos takes joy in them. Give him a morsel of cake and he grins like he has won the world. Turn on the stereo and he dances unreservedly to any music it offers.

He sends the simple, sublime message: we don’t need much to be happy.

Many posts ago we celebrated the moment Amos took his first steps. We rejoiced when he came off the nasogastric tube. Now Amos is venturing further than ever into life.

He has drawn his first fish complete with a body, tail and eyes. He has started tracing his ABCs in wriggly but absolutely recognisable strokes.

And now—Amos is venturing into speech!

He attempts English, of course. But from time to time he’d get homesick and lapse fluently into strings of his beloved, incomprehensible dialect.

It probably sounded like Sanskrit. No offence.

So to celebrate this new chapter of Amos’ life we’ll leave you with a little activity that might provide a glimpse into the awesome Amos-Talk.

Have fun guessing!
